During elections, leadership contests and major nomination races, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation often asks candidates to fill out questionnaires to help inform you of where they stand on important taxpayer issues.
In the new riding of Calgary-Signal Hill, whoever wins the Conservative nomination is in all likelihood going to be the Member of Parliament for that riding. As such, we asked the two candidates in the race five important questions.
Unfortunately, Ron Liepert refused to answer the CTF’s questionnaire, despite repeated phone calls and emails to his campaign office.
Here’s a brief summary of Rob Anders’ answers:
1-Will you post all your MP expenses online, itemized with receipts? Yes
2-Will you support a federal “sunshine list” of salaries, benefits, etc.? Yes
3-Will you push for a lower, simpler, flatter federal income tax? Yes
4-Will you oppose any increase in federal gas & diesel taxes? Yes
5-Will you oppose going into debt for anything other than major emergencies? Yes

We have sent the exact same questionnaire to candidates in roughly a dozen other ridings across Alberta and will post the results as the nomination meetings are called by their respective parties.
Is Canada Off Track?
Canada has problems. You see them at gas station. You see them at the grocery store. You see them on your taxes.
Is anyone listening to you to find out where you think Canada’s off track and what you think we could do to make things better?
